I used to roll stairs as a kid before they even made decent unicycles. They broke down all the time but we put them through the abuse anyway.

There are unicycles that are over $1300! I found that it was worth putting in a little extra cash on a good set of cranks and a hub. I've snapped my share of crank arms.
